Subash Chauhan joins BJD

Bnhubaneswar: Former BJP leader Subash Chauhan, who quit the saffron party on Tuesday, joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday.

Chauhan joined the regional party in presence of party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas here.

Speaking to media persons, Patnaik said, “Chauhan’s joining will strengthen the party’s position in the State, especially in western Odisha.”

Chauhan resigned from BJP yesterday after being denied a party ticket to contest from the Bargarh Lok Sabha constituency for the upcoming elections.

In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Chauhan had got around 3.72 lakh votes from Bargarh Parliamentary constituency but lost to the BJD’s Prabhas Singh by just 11,178 votes.
