Students, teachers hit street after school vehicle-pickup van crash

Bhadrak: Tension ran high at Badamahal Square on Dhamra-Basudevpur Road in the district for hours on Friday, after a school van had a narrow escape after being hit by a coal-laden pickup van. Hundreds of teachers and students staged a road blockade at the accident site, protesting the incident.

The mishap took place in the morning while the school van bearing registration number OD 22 F 4383 was on its way to Bharatiya Vidya Niketan located in Bijaypatna carrying students. Driver of a coal-laden pickup van bearing registration number OR 22 E 7138 coming from Dhamra area lost control over the wheels and struck the school van from rear and overturned at Badamahal Square. While the school van got damaged in the crash, nobody sustained injury in the accident.

However, the teachers and students of the school along with some villagers staged a road blockade at the spot following the incident. They protested the plying of coal-laden vehicles through Dhamra-Basudevpur Road holding them responsible for regular accidents in this route. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road for hours following the blockade.

Police reached the spot and were trying to pacify the angry locals till this report was being filed.
