Malkangiri: Presenting a gloomy picture of the functioning of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan program in the Malkangiri district on Thursday night, a tribal residential school serves only rice and salt to the students in as dinner. The incident has put a big question mark on the district administration’s commitment towards the ‘Education for all’ campaign of the government.
The incident came to fore at Sorishmal Sebashram School located just 10 kilometers away from the district headquarters. Reports say after the mess authorities of the school hostel served only rice and salt to the students in meals on Thursday night despite availability of sufficient vegetables in the storehouse, some students informed their parents about matter. The parents took up the issue with the District Welfare Officer (DWO) Pitambar Nayak today morning.
Nayak visited the school this morning and conducted a search inside the store-house. After finding the allegation to be true, Nayak ordered a probe into the whole issue.
“The school has enough materials in stock. It is not clear why the mess authorities are not serving them to students. A probe has been ordered into the matter,” said Nayak.
On the other hand, students and their parents have claimed that such apathy on the part of the school authorities has become a regular affair which needed to be addressed on a priority basis by the district administration.
