Strongly denounce the vitriolic & intolerant responses: Odisha CM on trolling of Sushma Swaraj

Bhubaneswar: After Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Rajnath Singh supported Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, who has been trolled on Twitter for days over her ministry’s help to an interfaith couple, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also on Wednesday extended his support to Sushma.

Taking to his twitter handle, Patnaik said that the Foreign Minister has been a leader in using social media to help common citizens of the country, therefore, such conduct (intolerant responses) must be strongly condemned.

Sushma Swaraj has been targeted with offensive tweets for the help given to one Tanvi Seth and her husband Mohammad Anas Siddiqui, who complained to her about humiliation when they went for renewing their passports.

Tanvi Seth was allegedly harassed by an officer for not changing her name. The official had also taunted her husband saying he should change his religion.

While, the couple has got the passport, the officer has been transferred.

Sushma Swaraj, who was abroad when her ministry assisted the couple, continues to face attacks on social media.

Last week, she posted a Twitter poll and asked her followers if they supported the trolling. Shockingly, 43 per cent said they supported it.
