STF seizes brown sugar worth over 1 crore in capital city of Odisha, 2 arrested

Bhubaneswar: The chain of massive drug haul continues in Odisha where the Special Task Force (STF) Bhubaneswar seized 1 kg 25 gms of brown sugar from near Rasulgarh crossing in capital city and arrested two youths in this connection. They have been identified as Rakibul Laskar (30) and Sudhanya Gayen (44) of West Bengal.

Based on a reliable information, a team of STF, Bhubaneswar conducted a raid near Rasulgarh crossing and seized 1 kg 25 gms of brown sugar and held Rakibul along with Sudhanya from the spot.

During the interrogation, the drug peddlers could not produce any valid authority in support of possession of such contraband materials and hence they have been arrested. A case has been filed under sections 21(c)/29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act, 1985. Rakibul and Sudhanyawill be forwarded to the court of District & Sessions Judge, Bhubaneswar.

As per the preliminary investigation, it has been established that there has been a connection of drugs with West Bengal. The team has initiated a probe to nab other interstate drug peddlers involved in this drug peddling.

The worth of seized brown sugar is estimated to be more than one crore rupees.

Since 2020, STF in the special drive against narcotic drugs has seized more than 40 kg of brown sugar and more than 86 quintals 81 kg of ganja while arrested more than 100 drug peddlers.
