Puri: In the direction of the upcoming Srimandir Ratna Bhandar (treasure trove) inspection, the date for which will be finalised in the Chhatisa Nijog (apex body of temple servitors) meeting today, the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been discussed and accepted at a meeting of temple managing committee on Wednesday.

As per the SOP the treasure trove would be inspected by towel-clad officials.

The meeting chaired by Puri Gajapati King Dibyasingha Deb and SJTA Chief Administrator Pradeep Jena okayed the guidelines for the structural inspection of the Ratna Bhandar limited to its ceiling and wall, frisking and scanning of ASI officials both at the time of entry and exit along with their adherence to dress code of ‘traditional towel’ called ‘gamuchha’. It also decided to go ahead with the decision to disallow inspectors to carry any metal objects or electronic gadgets into the chamber at the time of inspection.

As per Jena, to tackle the possibility of the presence of snakes inside the Ratna Bhandar, help of the snake helpline members could be taken in case of need. The list of officials who would be engaged in the inspection drive would be finalised in the Chhatisa Nijog meeting scheduled for today, he added.

The SJTA and Ratna Bhandar Sub-Committee on Monday had clarified that thechamber will be inspected after taking Odisha government and the Chattisa Nijog into confidence. The Law Department of the state government had permitted Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to go ahead after the latter sought its permission on Tuesday. However, it specified some guidelines for the purpose.
