Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has called for a special meeting of the Ratna Bhandar Sub-Committee this evening to take decision whether to carry out an inspection of Puri Srimandir’s Ratna Bhandar, the chamber containing Lord Jagannath’s treasure trove, or not.

According to reports, SJTA Chief Administrator Pradeep Kumar Jena will chair the meeting at 7 PM today.

Two members of the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee, those who have been appointed as members of Ratna Bhandar Sub-Committee, Superintendent Archaeologist and other archaeologists of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Chatisha Nijoga Moha Nayak and Sebayats looking after the Ratna Bhandar will be part of the meeting.

Meanwhile, a six-member ASI team conducted inspection of the outer part of the Ratna Bhandar from the Navikata Mandap ahead of the Sub-Committee meeting.

Notably, the Orissa High Court had on March 22 directed the ASI to carry out an inspection of Puri Srimandir’s Ratna Bhandar on March 26 and 27. However, several servitors and activists of Jagannath Sena have been opposing the opening of the Ratna Bhandar which was last inspected in 1984.
