Srimandir heritage corridor project: Puri King meets Shankaracharya, says no one should hinder development

Puri: Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb met Puri Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati today over the ongoing controversy over the Sri Jagannath Temple heritage corridor project.

After having a two-hour-long meeting with the Shankaracharya, the Puri King said that no one should hinder the development work of Lord Jagannath.

In the meeting, he reportedly apprised the Shankaracharya that the heritage corridor project is being carried out with an aim to provide security to the 12th-century shrine and more amenities for devotees. Besides, the temple premises would get beautification following the project. A power-point presentation regarding the same was also conducted during the meeting

Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Vir Vikram Yadav, district collector Samarth Verma and members of the Jagannath Temple Managing Committee also were part of the meeting.

Meanwhile, several chief servitors of the temple filed a writ petition at the Orissa High Court seeking orders for completion of the project at the earliest. Odisha government along with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) have been made parties in the writ petition.
