Special team of doctors’ formed to look after conjoined twins Ganga-Jamuna

Cuttack: A special team of doctors has been formed to take up the case of yet another conjoined twins of Odisha Ganga-Jamuna, who took birth to a couple of Khalapala village in Dhenkanal district on Monday.

Informing on the step, Cuttack Sishu Bhawan Superintendent Prof Saroj Kumar Satpathy said, the team will comprise of seven members including Paediatric, Neonatal and Thoracic physicians. The team will be led by Dr Hiranya Mohanty, he added.

The conjoined baby girl duo was born to Renubala Behera and Pradeep Behera of Khalapala village under Parjang block of Dhenkanal at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) last morning. Later, they were shifted to Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack for further treatment in order to avoid any future medical complications.

Informing on the congenital state of the twin Prof Satpathy said, the case is called ‘Thoracopagus’. In such cases the conjoined babies possess one heart having the same pulse and blood pressure making the chance of separation almost impossible, he added.
