Southwest monsoon hits Andaman Sea, Likely To Touch Odisha By June 7

Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon winds have touched the South Andaman Sea, Nicobar islands including the Southeast Bay of Bengal, informed Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar on Monday.

Reportedly, the monsoon rain is likely to touch Odisha by June 7, 2022, while the onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala is expected on May 27.

Sources have said that the cyclone Asani that impacted parts of AP, Odisha, and West Bengal with rain and winds has helped in pulling the monsoon currents into the Bay of Bengal a little early.

Adding to it, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow warning for light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur in different districts.

From 8.30 AM of 16.5.2022 up to 8.30 AM of 17.5.2022:

  • Forecast: Light to Moderate Rain or Thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.
  • Yellow Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore Cuttack and Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Sundergarh.

Valid from 8.30 AM of 17.5.2022 up to 8.30 AM of 18.5.2022:

  • Forecast: Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha.
  • Yellow Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri.

Valid from 8.30 AM of 18.5.2022 up to 8.30 AM of 19.5.2022:

  • Forecast: Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of North Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.
  • Yellow Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack.
