Berhampur: One person was allegedly murdered in Ichhapur village under Polasara police limits in Ganjam district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Sushant Nayak, son of former sarpanch of Pandiripada panchayat, Dandapani Nayak. Police said that two others who were injured in the incident are undergoing treatment.
Police said that the deceased was assaulted along with his two associates while returning home from Bhubaneswar. While the trio was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to a nearby hospital, the victim was declared dead by the doctors.
“We have started an investigation after registering a case. Though the exact motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained we suspect past enmity behind the incident. We have also mobilised adequate police force in the area to avoid any further untoward incident,” said a police official.
