Amidst the 48-hour ban on Internet services in Kendrapara over the social media unrest that threatened peace and harmony in the region, Central Range IG Soumendra Priyadarshi rushed to the district to take stock of the situation
The IG discussed the situation with senior officials and also met the locals from both communities to diffuse the tension and sought their help to maintain peace and calm.
Situation remains tense, but under control in Kendrapara over the offensive social media video post by a miscreant, targeting a particular community. FIR has been filed on this issue.
Earlier yesterday, Kendrapara Collector had written to the Home Department, seeking a ban on Internet services to stop escalation of tension. The Odisha Government has already imposed a 48-hour ban on Internet services in Kendrapara starting from 3 PM yesterday.
Kendrapara SP Dayanidhi Gocchhayat has also written a letter to Facebook Headquarters, seeking further details of the account holder, who tried to foment trouble with offensive posting. He also sought closure of the account.
