Bhubaneswar: In a bid to tackle frequent road mishaps along the NH 16 passing through the state capital, enforcement agencies have identified as many as 16 black spots (accident prone spots) on the NH.

A joint meeting of Commissionerate police, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and state transport department was held at Commissionerate Headquarters on Saturday to chalk out a detailed plan to reduce accidents on the stretch.

Police officials said that as many as 12 black spots have been identified under Bhubaneswar UPD from Nakhara to Pitapalli while four other accident-prone spots have been identified on the stretch under Cuttack UPD.

“During the meeting, it was decided to address road engineering at Palasuni Square and Kalinga Vihar near Tomando. The NHAI was also requested to formally notify the black spots. We will also intensify the drive against rash and speed driving. Road signage will also be placed to caution the road users about the black spots,” said police commissioner, Satyajit Mohanty.
