Six rare fishes netted in Odisha!

Jajpur: A group of fishermen in Odisha’s Jajpur district were taken surprised after they netted six rare fishes from the Kharasrota River on Friday.

Some fishermen were catching fish from the Kharasrota River in the Jokadia area under the Rasulpur block of the district today. They were using the normal nets for fishing.

Hours after fishing, they netted as many as six rare fishes which weighed between 48 and 72 kgs. The fishes reportedly weighed 72 kgs, 68 kgs, 62 kgs, 50 kgs, 48.5 kgs, and 48 kgs.

Sources said that the fishermen caught such fish for the first time since they started fishing in life. Therefore, they are clueless about the fishes and called them ‘rare’ fishes.

Meanwhile, people from the nearby area rushed to the village to have a glance of the rare fishes.

    The fishermen of Jajpur district had caught Widemouth catfishes or Goujon catfishes. This is perhaps a sub-species of widemouth catfish in oriental biogeographical realm like India.
