Cuttack: Jagatpur police on Wednesday night arrested six criminals for allegedly collection extortion of Rs 2 lakh in the area few days ago.
The accused have been identified as Ashok Kumar Behera (31), Manoj Kumar Swain (31), Sridhar Behera (35), Kalpataru Sahu (32), Dibyajit Barik (32) and Amitab Swain (33).
Police have seized an automatic pistol, four live ammunition, three cars and four motorcycles from the accused.
Police said that the accused have threatened one Satrughna Sahoo on gun point and have collected extortion of Rs 2 lakh. The accused have also assaulted him and have terrorised general public in the area.
“ Most of them have several criminal cases pending against them at various police stations in Cuttack. All of them have been forwarded to the court,” said a police official.
