Similipal National Park To Remain Closed From June 15

Bhubaneswar: The Similipal National Park and Tiger Reserve located in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha will remain shut for visitors from June 15, ahead of the ensuing south-west monsoon which is likely to reach Odisha on June 15.

A notification issued by the forest department informed that the entry point of the national park at Lulung in Pithabata forest range and Kalyani in Jashipur forest range will remain closed.

Every year, the national park is closed from mid-June to October 31 as monsoon is the mating season of the animals.

Spread over 2,750 sq km, Similipal is the largest Tiger Reserve and the seventh largest national park in the country. It is home to 99 Royal Bengal Tigers and 432 wild elephants.

Besides Simlipal is famous for gaurs (Indian Bison), spotted deer, chausingha as well as an orchidarium showcasing exotic varieties of orchid flowers.
