Shelter home in-charge held for harassing inmates physically in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: Within 24-hours of surfacing of a child sexual harassment case in a shelter home in Beltikri here, police today arrested its caretaker and launched a manhunt against the owner.

The arrested in-charge has been identified as Simanchal Nayak.

Dhenkanal Police took action against the in-charge by acting upon a complaint filed with it by Child Protection Officer (CPO) Anuradha Goswami yesterday.

Notably, a number of minor girls from ‘Good News India Dream Centre’ shelter home yesterday alleged before media that, Naik along with the owner Faiz Rahman physically and mentally harassed them.

Later, a joint team of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and District Child Protection Unit raided the shelter home and verified its documents. During the verification it came to notice that the shelter home was operating in the area since past two years without a registration under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. At least 54 minor girls and 40 minor boys were residing in the shelter home.

While Naik is being questioned, efforts are on to nab Rahman who lives in USA, said Dhenkanal SDPO Sk Abdul Karim.
