Sheep killing continues in Niali, 6 more found deadNiali: After a few days of lull, the fear of the mysterious animal returned to haunt people in Niali block of Cuttack district killing six more sheep in Dahijang village under Bilasuni panchayat late on Tuesday night.

The killings left villagers in a state of panic as the modus operandi of the killer animal in last night’s killing was exactly the same as seen in the case of over 200 sheep killed in the area in the last two months.

According to reports, Sarat Bhoi, a resident of Dahijang village, spotted six of his sheep – four adults and two cubs – dead inside the cattle-shed late in the night on Tuesday. The sheep carcasses were found with their necks and stomachs torn wide open suggesting an attack by a wild animal.

Bilasuni panchayat happens to be one of the worst affected areas as far as sheep killing is concerned. Around 60 sheep have been killed and 20 grievously injured in the panchayat in 15 separate incidents of attack by the mysterious animal, informed Manabhanjan Behera, Bilasuni Sarpanch.

On the other hand, all efforts on the part of the administration to catch the predator have gone in vein.
While images of four canine-like animals were caught on the Kalinga TV camera put up inside the affected villages, it is still not clear who is behind the sheep killings.
