Cuttack: The Cuttack district administration ordered for the suspension of classes in several schools in the city on Monday following incessant rain which hit normal life starting from the morning.

Informing on the decision Cuttack ADM Raghuram Iyer said the District Educational Officer (DEO) has ordered the headmasters of the schools functioning in the low-lying areas of the town for a closure in view of the torrential rain. However, he said all steps are being taken by the district administration to bring normalcy to the town by dispelling the stagnant rain water.

“Pumps installed in the low-lying areas to tackle waterlogging have been made functional following the rain. These pumps are being jointly operated by Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). That apart, the district administration has a joint standing team with an Additional Collector and a CMC engineer as members to look after the issue,” said Iyer.

Heavy rain which lashed the Millenium City since morning today caused water logging at several key points posing a threat to the safety of school kids as well as commuters.
