Khordha: A seven-year-old minor boy was crushed to death by the chariot during chariot pulling in Palatana ground of Banapur in Balugaon this evening.
The deceased has been identified as Sudhir Patra, a resident of Chianga village in Banapur.
Eyewitnesses said that the incident took place at around 5.30 pm when Patra slipped and fell into a pothole on the road. “It was crowded and the chariot pulling was on the last stage. No one could notice the minor boy and the chariot ran over him,” said an eyewitness.
He was immediately rescued by the people and was rushed to the Balugaon Community Health Centre. However, doctors referred him to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar in a critical condition. Patra succumbed on his way to Bhubaneswar.
Tension prevailed in the area following the incident and villagers staged a demonstration at Banapur market demanding adequate compensation. Adequate police force has been mobilised in the area to restore peace.
