Separate cases of poll violence witnessed during Odisha Municipal Elections

Bhubaneswar: Separate cases of poll violence have been reported from several places across the state amid the Odisha Municipal Elections. The polling is underway at three Municipal Corporations and 106 Municipalities/NACs.

Reportedly, a youth has bee stabbed by some unidentified miscreants outside polling booth number 16 in Ward number 9 of Dhamnagar NAC in Bhadrak district.

The incident took place allegedly due to an altercation over casting vote sustaining severe injuries.

He was immediately rushed to District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) and is undergoing treatment.

In another incident of poll violence, the Vice-Chairman of Khandapada block in Nayagarh Sisir Sahu has been attacked by some miscreants over a political rivalry.

The attack took place outside Khandapada Women’s College booth.

Notably, the Secretary of State Election Commission (SEC), Odisha informed that 32 per cent voting for the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) was recorded till 12 PM.

Nearly 21 per cent of voter turnout has been recorded in 3 municipal corporations – Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) – till 12 PM.

The voting for the 106 Urban Local Bodies and three municipal corporations of the State which began at 8 AM will continue till 5 PM.

The State Election Commission also clarified that the EVM glitches, which were reported in some places, have not affected the voting process at any booth.
