Bhubaneswar: In an important development while Congress national president Rahul Gandhi is on a visit to Odisha, former Odisha finance minister and a senior leader Panchanan Kanungo today announced to join the grand old party today.
Kanungo who remained out of the active politics for quite some time took the crucial decision ahead of the general elections in the country next year.

However, the decision of Kanungo has come as a big disappointment for a group of expelled BJD leaders including Damodar Rout. Earlier it was being thought that Kanungo would join a new party floated by the expelled leaders and also being spotted with the group.
Kanungo was away from the politics after being ousted from the ruling BJD, a few years back.
