Security siren averts ATM loot in Ganjam

Berhampur: In yet another incident of failed ATM loot attempt in the state, a group of miscreants ran away after a security siren installed at the Khalingi Indian Bank branch under Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam district blew during loot bid.

The incident took place last night minutes after the looters approached the ATM which is located adjacent to Khalingi Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra and started breaking its lock with a motive to steal cash. As the siren started blowing alerting the locals they had to leave the spot in a hurry.

Later police and the bank authorities reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

Taking into account the effectiveness of the siren to in preventing ATM loot bid, the district police has advised other banks in the area to install the same facility at their teller machines.

In a similar incident, burglars tried but failed to break open the State Bank of India DRDA Square ATM in Kandhamal district on March 2. Earlier this year on January 5, burglars also struck SBI ATM located at Kunduli Hatapada area under Pattangi police limits in Koraput district but failed to take any cash from it.
