Season’s first Swine Flu case surfaces in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The first Swine Flu case of the season surfaced in the state yesterday after a woman from Nachuni area in Khordha district was detected positive with H1N1 virus.

The infection came to fore after the woman patient was admitted to a private hospital located in Khandagiri area in the city last afternoon after complaining of cold and cough. Her swab samples sent for test at the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) was found bearing the virus of the vector-borne disease by the night.

While it is still not clear how the patient contracted the virus, her family members have also been asked to undergo tests.

The detection of the first case of Swine Flu of the season in Odisha have raised worries for the administration taking into account the fact that, the disease killed at least 50 people and infected close to 400 others in the state last year.
