SCW Recommends Crime Branch Probe In Death Of Lady VLW In Jajpur

Cuttack: State Commission for Women (SCW), Minati Behera today said that they have recommended Crime Branch probe into the death of lady village level worker (VLW) & in-charge panchayat executive officer (PEO) of Haridaspur, Smitarani Biswal.

Biswal was found hanging in the guest house of Rupesh Bhadra, the husband of Haridaspur sarpanch on October 16. Subsequently, police had arrested Bhdra was arrested on October 19 for abetting Biswal’s suicide.

Opposition parties have now and again targeted the police and had alleged the police of giving suicide angle in the murder case. They have also criticized the police for assassinating the character of the deceased by claiming that Biswal had an affair with Bhadra.

SCW, Behera refuted the allegations of lapses in the investigation, “The Commission has conducted a proper investigation of the case but the matter is being politicised. Still, we have asked for a detailed investigation by Crime Branch,” said Behera.
