School students block road in Keonjhar demanding restoration of bus service

Keonjhar: Hundreds of students from different schools staged a road blockade in Kasia village under Serenda panchayat in the district this morning and demanded restoration of the cancelled bus service of Mesco Steel in the area.

Over 200 students from different schools located in areas like Kasia, Serenda and Bhadrasahi boycotted their classes and took part in the blockade along with their parents. Resorting to sloganeering at the protest site by holding placards and banners against the Mesco Company the agitating students claimed that the stoppage of bus service has adversely affected their studies and hence company should rethink on it.

Traffic movement between Bhadrasahi and Barbil area was brought to a grinding halt and hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the Barbil-Serenda Road during the protest.

Notably, the Mesco authorities have cancelled the bus service for last one month in the area by stating the cause as closure of its mines. Earlier the bus service was being provided to the children of the mines affected families.

Police reached the spot and tried to remove the blockade after having talks with the blockaders.
