School boy dies after vaccination in Sundergarh, probe ordered

Sundergarh: Taking the death of a schoolboy allegedly due to wrong vaccination at Mahima Sisu Vidya Mandir in Sector 6 area of Rourkela yesterday, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) today ordered for a probe into the incident.

The CDMO has formed a six-member team to investigate into the matter and also ordered for the stoppage of the immunisation drive in schools across the district till its completion.

Notably, the victim Sumanjit Pradhan (10), a Class-V student of Mahima Sisu Vidya Mandir, Sector 6 had been administered with a TD (Tetanus and Diphtheria) vaccine by an ASHA worker yesterday.

However, the child reported uneasiness a few minutes after taking the vaccine. He died while being rushed to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) by his family members later.

Family members of the deceased also staged a protest at the IGH demanding action against those responsible for the death.
