Last night, the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) director Prakash Mohapatra met the leaders of the Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) and House Surgeons’ Association (HSA) and assured them of fulfilling a few of their demands dubbing those to be legitimate ones.

Following the assurance for the fulfillment of two of their demands, the house surgeons have declared to join work from today. However the Association has warned that a meeting would be held by it after 15 days to review on how much progress has been made by the administration towards fulfilling the demands and the next course of action would be decided based on that.

Junior medicos started a cease-work stir on Wednesday following an alleged attack by relatives of a patient from Mahanga area of Cuttack district on Dr Aman Behera a day before. Following the lodging of an FIR by the doctor at the local police station three persons were detained.

Later on house surgeons joined the stir with three point charter of demand including removal of hospital Superintendent Dr Shyama Kanungo, strengthening and proper reviewing of the security system, and announcement of stipend.
