SC hearing on Srimandir reform deferred by four weeks

Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court today deferred the hearing on the Puri Sri Jagannath temple reform by four weeks as the Amicus Curiae in the case Gopal Subramanium sought more time.

The decision on deferment on the part of the Apex Court came after taking into account the fact that the Amicus Curiae is scheduled to visit the Srimandir next week. He would complete some pending tasks in connection with the verification of the shrine, reports say.

Notably, after taking up a PIL in connection with alleged mismanagement in Srimandir for hearing earlier this year, the apex court directed the temple administration for implementation of 12 proposals through an interim order after two rounds of hearing on June 8 and again on July 5 . The court also directed the Odisha Government to form an expert committee to look into the matter.

A three-member expert committee constituted by Odisha at a later stage held public hearings on the matter and visited several other shrines in the country to study management processes there. It submitted the study report to the apex court yesterday.
