Dipak, OmjiNew Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday slapped a fine of Rs. 10 lakh each on controversial god-man Swami Omji and Delhi-based businessman Mukesh Jain for challenging the appointment of Dipak Misra as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI).

In its order, a divisional bench headed by CJI JS Khehar directed the duo to pay the amount of fine within a month’s time and the same amount should go to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

Omji and Jain had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the convention followed and the procedure adopted for the appointment of Justice Mishra as the next CJI.

However the apex court rejected the PIL saying the same is ill motivated and a publicity stunt.

Omji is not new to controversy. He was recently arrested by the inter-state cell of crime branch from Delhi’s Bhajanpura area.

A few months ago, Omji was thrashed by locals in Delhi when he tried to misbehave with a woman during a cultural event. In January, the self-proclaimed god-man was kicked out of the popular TV reality show Bigg Boss for misbehaving with a fellow woman contestant.
