Satyajit Mohanty takes charge as Twin City Police Commissioner

Bhubaneswar: Satyajit Mohanty assumed charge as the new Commissioner of Police of twin city- Cuttack and Bhubaneswar on Friday. He became the sixth Police Commissioner of the twin city in the State.

The 1988 batch IPS officer took over the rein from Y B Khurania at the headquarters of Commissionerate of Police in the city.

Mohanty was the Additional DGP (Provisioning) before taking the new office. He had also worked as Superintendent of Police in Koraput, Rourkela, Cuttack and Balasore districts and Additional SP of Puri.

The change of guard came in the backdrop of rising crimes like theft, burglary, murder, rape, molestation among others in the twin city. Besides cyber-crime particularly circulation of obscene videos on social media has also emerged as a challenge for the city cops.

The Commissionerate police system was launched in the twin city in 2008. Now it has 22 police stations in Bhubaneswar as against 16 then. Cuttack has 21 police stations.
