Cuttack: The Salipur Congress MLA Prakash Chandra Behera had a narrow escape from an alleged murder bid in Sapanpur village under Tangi police limits on Thursday after a truck driver tried to mow him down under the wheels.

As per an FIR filed by Behera’s driver Abdul Rahim at Tangi Police Station on Friday, the MLA was returning in the afternoon after attending a program in Tangi block, when the attack took place. Driver of a lorry truck (OD 05 M 0561) coming from the opposite direction intentionally struck the Ford Endeavour SUV (OD 05 M 0007) which the MLA was boarding at around 4.40 PM at Sapanpur Square. Despite repeated attempt to give the truck a comfortable passage on the road, the driver drove the vehicle towards the SUV and struck it, mentioned Rahim in his complaint.

“The MLA’s life was saved only after I drove the SUV to roadside and some locals reached out to help us,” wrote Rahim in his complaint.

The Salipur MLA has alleged Mallick Transport’s owner Tappu Shukla’s hand in the attack. Tappu has past enmity with the MLA.

Tangi Police have detained the accused driver and are investigating into the incident.
