Russia-Ukraine war: Odisha nominates 4 special representatives to evacuate stranded Odias

Bhubaneswar: Owing to the crisis prevailing in Ukraine, a number of people especially students from Odisha are still stranded in the war-prone Ukraine and need to be evacuated. Also, a number of students/ citizens from Odisha have crossed over to the neighbouring countries like Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia from where they are being evacuated by Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India by special flights.

In this backdrop, the Government of Odisha has decided to nominate special representatives to the countries mentioned above to coordinate with the Resident Commissioner and to ensure smooth evacuation of students/NRO’s from Ukraine especially from the border location with neighbouring countries.

According to an order issued by the State government, Dwiti Vikramaditya, the Vice-President of KIIT University & KISS University has been given charge of Poland and will also do the overall coordination.

Arushi Ray, senior TDPS Officer, GLDC, UNHCR, has been given the charge of Hungary while Baishali Mohanty, UN Policy Officer, WFP, Rome and Anurag Pattnaik, based in Hungary, Consultant, have been put in-charge of Romanian and Slovakia respectively.

Likewise, the Resident Commissioner Office, New Delhi will be the nodal office for the purpose. The entire expenses for the purpose will be met out of Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

More than 75,000 Odias have returned from the war-hit Ukraine till now. As many as 35 people from the State returned and reached New Delhi today. However, thousands of Odias are still stranded in Ukraine.
