RSP Tunnel Mishap: Two more bodies recovered, search on for rest two

Rourkela: The rescue team engaged at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to save at least five scrap looters who went missing in a tunnel on June 3 managed to recover two more bodies last night.

A joint team of local police, Odisha Fire Services Personnel, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) and RSP technicians entered into the Outfall-9 tunnel late in the night and brought out the bodies.

While the identification of the bodies could not have been made so far, the recovery took the total number of casualty in the mishap to three with no information on the rest two so far. Earlier on June 10 the rescue team had managed to recover the body of one of the victims.

As per a complaint filed by one of the victim Raju Naik’s wife at Udit Nagar Police Station on June 8, her husband along with four others namely Krishna, Suraj Singh, Suresh and Gahanu of Sitalpada slum entered into the tunnel on the day of the incident and did not return even after five days.

Acting upon the complaint, Udit Nagar Police first tried to rescue the victim with the help of fire officials and later called up ODRAF team to assist. They were later joined by personnel from other  forces.
