Rs 219 cr. flood damage estimated in 5 Odisha districts

Rayagada floodsBhubaneswar: The Government of  Odisha has estimated the damage caused by the recent floods in five districts at Rs. 218.72 crores.

The damage report prepared by the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), which was released on Wednesday, will now be sent to the Union government for necessary financial assistance.

The floods between July 15 and 19 caused massive damage in five districts: Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Kalahandi .

The highest damage of Rs 60.7 crore due to the flood was reported by the Works department followed by Rs 49 crore by Panchayati Raj department, according to the report.

A loss of Rs 21.85 crore occurred in the Water Resources department due to the collapse of river and canal embankments (Rs 1.75 crore) and irrigation projects (Rs 20.10 crore), while a loss of Rs 3.51 crore took place in lift irrigation projects of the department.

The forest department estimated a damage of Rs 30 lakh, while the Animal Resources department reported losses worth 67 lakh.

The agriculture department estimated damages of Rs 4.3 crore, while the SC/ST department and the Energy department reported losses of Rs 10 crore and Rs 4.6 crore respectively. .

The loss in other flood affected districts such as Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Kendrapara is yet to be estimated, sources in the SRC said..
