RP Sharma takes charge as new DGP of Odisha

RPCuttack: Senior IPS officer Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma took over as the new DGP of Odisha Police at the state police headquarters here on Thursday. Sharma replaced KB Singh, who was named as the new chairman and managing director (CMD) of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC).

A 1986-batch IPS officer, Sharma paid floral tributes at the martyr’s pillar on reaching the police headquarters at around 11.30am in the morning today. Later, he received a guard of honour from the department after assuming office.

Soon after joining his office, Sharma said a new strategy would be to formulated to deal with the Maoist challenge in the state. For that, he would emphasise on the technological advancement of the police force, informed the new DGP.

The former Director General of the State Vigilance Sharma admitted that cybercrime and safety and security of the senior citizens in the state would be the main challenges during his tenure. An otherwise cool and sober person, Sharma assured that he would work towards building up a strong police and public bond and try to maintain transparency in the department.

Notably, Sharma had joined as twin city Police Commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack on August 12, 2013.
