Angul: A Royal Bengal tiger has been brought to Satkosia Tiger Reserve of the district in a special vehicle from the Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.

The Royal Bengal tiger has been brought as a part of Odisha government’s efforts to revive tiger population in the protected 963 sq-km forest which has only two tigers, both over the age of 13.

A joint team of forest officials from Madhya Pradesh and Odisha along with staff from the National Tiger Conservation Authority and a veterinarian brought the big cat in a special vehicle with fan and water sprinklers.

Sources said that a special enclosure has been put up at the Satkosia to facilitate the entry of deer and other prey for the tiger.

Five more tigers will be brought to Satkosia in subsequent phases, added the sources.
