Rourkela Vigilance Raid: Crorepati Assistant Collector arrested

Sundargarh: A day after the Odisha Vigilance sleuths conducted simultaneous raids on several places belonging to Rourkela Crorepati Assistant Collector, Manoranjan Nayak, he has been arrested on charges of accumulation of disproportionate assets.

Reportedly, Nayak is being interrogated at Rourkela Vigilance Office. The sleuths have recovered assets worth Rs 2 crore to the Assistant District Magistrate on Tuesday.

The sleuths have conducted raids at five places in Sundargarh, Jajpur, and Khordha districts. Simultaneous searches were conducted by five teams of the Odisha Vigilance team comprising one Additional SP, four DSPs, five Inspectors, and other staff on the strength of search warrants issued by Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh.

During the search the following assets have been unearthed:

  1. 1 triple-storeyed building at Rourkela The present market value of the building is around Rs.75 Lakh
  2. 1 double-storeyed building of Rourkela. The present market value of the building is around Rs 35 Lakh
  3. One 3 BHX Flat at Gothapatana, Bhubaneswar. The present market value of the building is more than Rs 50 Lakh. Undervaluation of this building during registration is suspected. A thorough probe has been initiated in this regard
  4. 2 four-wheelers (Hyundai Creta & Volkswagen Polo) and 1 two-wheeler
  5. Bank and other deposits, gold, cash, and other movable and immovable properties, all totaling approx. Rs 2 crore

It is being suspected that Nayak has created Benami assets in name of his relatives which is under verification. The unearthing of more assets including Benami properties is likely and overall valuation is likely to increase. Further investigation regarding the vigilance raid is underway.
