Anandpur: The body of a 62-year-old woman, believed to have committed suicide, was found hanging from a tree in Sundariapala village near Anandpur area of Keonjhar district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Suryamani Patro of Sundaripala village.
According to reports, a group of locals first spotted the dead body hanging from a tree in the village in the morning today and reported the matter to local police which seized the body.
However, locals took to the streets after the incident and alleged that the victim could have been killed as her body was seen touching the ground while hanging from the tree. They staged a road blockade by burning tyres on the Chhenapadi-Hadagada road later in the day demanding a probe into the incident.
While the investigation is on, police have arrested one person from the village on suspicion of his involvement in the case. Efforts to persuade the protesters to remove the road blockade were still on when this report was being filed.
