Paradip:  As many as 152 retrenched workers of erstwhile Cargill India refinery plant, which is now owned by Adani Wilmar Limited, staged dharna in front of the main gate of the company to press their demand of reinstatement in their jobs here in Odisha on Wednesday.

The workers, accompanied by their family members, staged demonstrations even though the Jagatsinghpur district administration had imposed Section 144 of CrPC in the area.

According to reports, the workers lost their jobs as the Cargill India Company shut down its operation in the town.  They also received adequate compensation from the company in this connection.

Adani Wilmar Limited however bought the Cargill India refinery plant and began its operation, sources said.

“We demand reinstatement in our jobs in the company which has bought the Cargill India Company where we were working for a long period of time” said a protestor.

Earlier, the workers had also staged a similar protest before the plant as well as before the local administration to press their demand.

Meanwhile, adequate police personnel have been deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident.
