Bhubaneswar: The resolution on establishment of a Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad) was passed in Odisha Assembly this evening.
The resolution was passed with 104 votes in favour from the state ruling BJD MLAs. Odisha Chief Minister was the first person to cast the vote.
On the other hand, both the Congress and BJP had staged walkout before the voting opposing the resolution.
Earlier in the day, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha had moved the resolution in the state Assembly.
The Vidhan Parishad will be formed with 49 members with 6 years tenure for each member and and 1/3rd of its members will retire every 2 years and Rs 35 crore will be the annual expenditure of the Parishad.
Meanwhile, Odisha CM said that the Legislative Council will be a great help for state.
