Renowned Odia Physicist & Padma Bhushan Awardee Trilochan Pradhan passes away

Bhubaneswar: Renowned Odia physicist and Padma Bhusan awardee Trilochan Pradhan passed away on Saturday morning. He was 93.

He was conferred the coveted Kalinga Samman- 2014, for popularisation of science amongst the people, Kalinga Ratna in 2018, He was also a Padma Bhushan Awardee in the year 1990.

He was an acclaimed Scientific Thinker, Orator, Science Popularizer & Writer and considered as the Einstein of Odisha.

He headed the Theoretical Nuclear Physics Division at the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics from 1964-74, was the first director of the Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar from 1974-89. He served as the vice chancellor of Utkal University from 1989-91.

Pradhan had authored the books, The Photon, (Nova Science Publishers, New York), 2001; Quantum Mechanics (University Press of Hyderabad); and Electron Capture by Protons Passing through Hydrogen.

He was born on January 3, 1929, Pradhan is known as an Indian scientist who obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1956.
