Relentless heat across state, 10 cities cross 40 deg mark

Bhubaneswar: Relentless heat has turned Odisha into a boiling pot. Ten cities across the state crossing 40 degree Celsius mark on Saturday, with Jharsuguda topping the charts with 42.6 degree Celsius.

Other cities that faced sizzling heat were Angul where mercury touched 42.1 degree Celsius, Sambalpur at 42.0, Hirakud at 41.7, Talcher at 40.5, Subarnapur at 40.2, and Bhabwanipatna, Balangir and Titlagarh touching 40 degree Celsius.

As per reports by the Regional Meteorological Department, coastal Odisha might get some respite from the merciless heat due to rains caused by Nor’westers or the Kalbaishakhi.

With about a week delay of arrival of monsoons has amplified the sufferings of dwellers of Odisha. As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the South-Western monsoon will touch Kerala coast on May 6. It will then take another week or so to reach Odisha.
