Cuttack: The Malgodown police in the city arrested a student of Ravenshaw University on Friday for allegedly assaulting a girl student of the same university on the premises of the institute and posting the photo of the incident on Facebook.
According to reports, one Subhrajit Ray, a final year BBA student of the varsity had a fight with a girl for some unknown reason during which he abused her and attacked her physically. Later, he posted the photo of the entire incident, which he had recorded on his phone, on Facebook.
After knowing that Ray had posted the photo on Facebook, the girl lodged a complaint with Malgodown police in this regard. Acting on her complaint police arrested the accused.
The victim also made the authority of the institute aware of the matter.
“The girl student has filed a written complaint with us alleging that she was harassed by the boy. The matter has been handed over to the Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual Harassment for investigation. Disciplinary action will be taken against the student, if he is found guilty,” informed Ravenshaw University Registrar Maheswar Agasti.
“Meanwhile, he has been suspended and his suspension may be extended if required. Based on the report of the Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual Harassment, which is yet to be received, he may also be sent out of the University” he added.
Subhrajit was suspended earlier for his alleged involvement in a clash that took place at Lalitgiri hostel of the institute.
