Balasore: A heartbreaking incident took place during the Rath Yatra celebration at Mathasahi under Basta police limits in the Balasore district of Odisha today. Electrocution during the pulling of the chariots left one dead and 7 injured.
According to reports, the chariot completely got wet following heavy rain in the area. Due to this, it got charged after coming in contact with a live 11 KV electric wire while it was being pulled by the devotees.
As many as eight persons were injured following the electrocution. They were admitted at the Basta Community Health Centre for treatment. However, one of them succumbs to injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Anil Kumar Sahoo, a resident of Agarada village.
A pall of gloom descended on the area following the unfortunate incident during Rath Yatra celebration.
