Puri: The members of the chariot construction engineering committee on Saturday noticed defects in the wheels of Devi Subhadra’s chariot Devadalan and Lord Balabhadra’s chariot Taladhawaja.
According to Asish Subudhi, the Executive Engineer in-charge of inspection of chariot construction, cracks were spotted in the spokes of the wheel of Devadalan, the axle of Taladhawaja was found to be weak.
Speaking to the reporters about the matter, Subudhi said that both the wheels of the chariots will be replaced with new ones to ensure smooth conduct of Rath Yatra this year.
The inspection by the chariot construction engineering committee has not gone well with the Maharana servitors. They claimed that it is their duty to repair if there are any defects in any of the parts of the chariots.
Besides, the chief Maharana servitors of three chariots have resigned from the chariot construction committee over the matter and some payment issues.
It is worthwhile to mention here that just three days before Rath Yatra, the axle Devi Subhadra’s chariot had broken last year. However, it was replaced by the Maharana servitors within four hours.
