Dhenkanal: Inspector In Charge (IIC) of Rasol police station, Santosh Pradhan, arrested last night for receiving a bribe of Rs 50000 was today sent to the Dhenkanal District Jail after the rejection of his bail plea.

Vigilance sleuths have caught Pradhan red-handed while receiving the bribe from the owner of a crusher unit.

“The owner of the crusher unit Ashutosh Mohanty was running the unit at Karanda village under Odapada block in Dhenkanal district. Pradhan used to extract Rs 50000 from Mohanty every month to let the unit run,” said a Vigilance official.

Subsequently, Mohanty approached the Vigilance and Pradhan was caught red-handed. This is the second incident of Vigilance trapping an IIC this week.

Vigilance sleuths on Monday had arrested Soumyajit Mishra, IIC of Gop police station in Puri district while taking a bribe of Rs 3000 from a person to settle a dispute.

Mishra had allegedly demanded the bribe to settle a verbal dispute between two groups in a wedding ceremony held at Oratanda village under Gop police limits last week.
