Angul: In a shocking incident a minor boy was made to do sit-ups inside Chhendipada Police Station in the district and then freed after getting held on charges of rape attempt on a minor in Bagedia village on Sunday.
The minor accused had been caught red-handed after he tried to molest a minor girl from the village last afternoon after the girl reached his shop to buy some books. He dragged the victim into a room located adjacent to the bookstore before the attempt. After the minor raised an alarm some locals reached the spot and rescued her. Later they handed over the boy to Chhendipada Police.
However instead of acting tough in the incident, IIC Nirmala Gochhayat allowed a Kangaroo court inside the Chhendipada Police Station where a group of locals led by one advocate namely Basant Pradhan made the boy to do sit-ups and also forced him to kneel before all. The minor was then released by the police.
While an attempt was made to contact the Chhendipada IIC over the issue she resorted to blatant show of power and declined to answer any question of Kalinga TV correspondent.
“If you are aware of the whole incident then why are you asking me,” replied the IIC over phone.
