Rape accused Army Jawan marries woman Home Guard survivor in Odisha

Phulbani: An army jawan married a woman home guard, whom he had raped on Friday night, at a temple in G. Udayagiri of Kandhamal district yesterday.

Tulu Pradhan, a native of Penagabhari village under Tikabali police limits of the district, who is posted as a jawan in the Bihar Regiment – of the Indian Army, tied the knot at Tarini temple in the presence of G. Udayagiri police and family members of both the sides.

Pradhan had raped the woman Home Guard on the roof of her rented house while she was alone. He had come to the village on holiday.

The G. Udayagiri police had booked a cases against the army jawan under section 448, 341, 323, 354, 376, 114, 506 and 34 after the victim filed a written complaint against him.

However, during interrogation, Tulu expressed his desire to marry the complainant, who also gave her consent following which their marriage was solemnised as per the Hindu rituals.
