Purnima Hembram, Jauna Murmu selected for Gold Coast Commonwealth Games-2018

Bhubaneswar: Odia athletes Purnima Hembram and Jauna Murmu have been included in the 31-member Indian athletic contingent to take part in the Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held at Gold Coast in Australia between April 4-15.

Both Purnima and Jauna were selected for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games-2018 by the selection committee of the Athletic Federation of India on Saturday for their successful performance in the recently concluded Federation Cup Senior Athletics Champions at Patiala in Punjab.

Purnima had won gold medal in women heptathlon event with 5815 points in the athletics champions but missed the CWG qualification mark of 5826 points in her event. However, she was picked up by the selection committee yesterday.

Likewise, Jauna had pocketed a bronze medal in the women 200 metre race with 24.64 seconds on the last day of the Federation Cup. She missed the CWG qualification time of 22.60 seconds but she was selected to take part in the 4X400 relay in the mega event.
